Cowboys score 39 points before halftime• By Robert Wanek Jr.
Breckenridge once again executed with efficiency in a 39-6 road win at Roseau on Thursday for its second victory of the season. The 2-0 Cowboys continued to compliment an elite run game with a surgical passing display from Cooper Yaggie. Christian Nieto carved out 124 rushing yards on 13 carries, as Yaggie completed 6-of-8 passes for 84 yards. The duo combined for five touchdowns in the matinee win, bringing their season touchdown totals to a combined nine. The halftime score was 39-0. Yaggie's knack for big plays in the passing department showed through again. Last season, he averaged 26 yards per completion, nearly identical to the 25 yards he's averaging to wideouts to start his senior campaign. In the run game, talented special-teamer and halfback James Mertes totaled 48 yards and found the end zone. Reece Pedersen added 57 receiving yards and his first touchdown of the year. Pedersen is off to a nice start in 2020, as the touchdown comes on the heels of a huge forced fumble in week one. Breckenridge held Roseau to 145 yards of total offense, including a meager 3.7 yards per tote on the ground. Defensive stats were not available. Breckenridge will travel to West Central Area/Ashby, Friday October 23rd, for a 7 p.m. tilt with the Knights. The game is in Barrett.
